To include bands such as Saliva and Klear in the Thursday at the Square lineup is what makes it a concert series. Everyone at some point this summer has a chance to come downtown, grab a front-row spot and sing along to a band that appeals to them. Thursday night it was the headbangers’ turn.

REVIEW

WHO: Saliva with Klear

WHEN: Thursday night

WHERE: Lafayette Square

Memphis hard-rockers Saliva hit it big in the early 2000s by combining mid-90s alternative rock with a metal edge. Singer Josey Scott contends the band was burned by the record industry, and its second song (with a title unsuitable for print) said as much.

Saliva went on too late (8:35 p. m.) to meet a tight deadline and write an accurate review of its spectacle. But the profanity-laced singalongs and songs that would sound good layered over top of wrestling highlight videos was probably indicative of the whole set. If Saliva didn’t meet all musical tastes, they were at least entertaining to look at and watch — lots of hair, black clothing and alcohol-spewing.

The real story of the evening was the reunion of Niagara Falls-based rockers Klear for its first show with original frontman Fred Shafer since December 2004.

Shafer left Klear to embark on what’s turned out to be a less than successful solo venture. Meanwhile, his bandmates carried on by adding Joe Cafarella, whose primary duties are as guitarist and lead singer for popular Buffalo hardcore band Stemm.

In early May, Stemm agreed to play the Rockstar Mayhem Festival at Darien Lake and, unknowingly to Cafarella, Klear agreed to open for Saliva at the Square — two major shows in the same week that Cafarella said was impossible for him to pull off. It was just the catalyst Klear needed to reunite.

October 20th Show Has Been Canceled
Attention Klear fans in the Rochester, NY area. The October 20th show at the Penny Arcade has been canceled do to an ownership change. As far as we know the Penny Arcade WILL be doing shows again in the near future. The reason the ownership change is effecting shows is that the building has to be turned over to the new owner and the new owner must obtain a liquor license before the doors can be reopen. As soon as things are straightened out we will then set up a new Rochester date and post it as ASAP. Thank you all for understanding and we hope to see you all VERY soon.

"KLEAR" BACK ONTO THE BUFFALO MUSIC FRONT THIS SPRING

Spring has long been associated as a time for new beginnings and that is exactly what it will be this year for Buffalo’s Rock-n-Roll favorites KLEAR. The band will be making a re entrance onto the Buffalo music scene with a twist of old and new…

Familiar to KLEAR fans will be the soulful, comfort of rock and roll riffs and melodic choruses that keep fans singing along. Tracks such as "It’s All On Me" and "Picture" have been and will remain a staple for the band’s live performances. New to KLEAR is the addition of guitarist/front man Joe Cafarella (also current guitarist/front man of the metal band STEMM) who has decided to take on the double duty of fronting both bands.

"Being a part of Klear has given me the opportunity to bring ideas to the table that just can’t be used in a metal band. At some point as a songwriter, you want to get the music out of you and my involvement with Klear has given me that chance" says Cafarella.

KLEAR’S efforts with Good Charamel Records and Budweiser's True Music program have gained them national recognition in the recent past and they plan to pull from this as well as build new interest amongst fans.

"It is a pleasure to have Joe on board with us" says Bruce Wojick. "A lot of history and mutual respect have developed between KLEAR and Joe over the years and we feel confident his involvement with the band is a step in the right direction and one that fans will embrace".

Using their downtime wisely, the band has been diligently working in the studio tracking new material for a four track EP to be released early July 2006. They will present their latest efforts with Cafarella on lead at their first live performance Friday June 2nd at Club Infinity (Williamsville, NY). For more updates & information about KLEAR visit My Space at www.myspace.com/klearband.
